Martin House provides care for 340 children and young people with progressive, terminal illnesses and offer support to their families, across the Yorkshire region.
The aim of Martin House is to provide family-led care in a home from home environment. It is a place where children, young people and their families can stay from time to time along their journey and find support rest and practical help. We also provide emotional and physical support to the whole family. At present we are also working with over 90 bereaved families from across the area.
We offer planned respite, emergency and end of life care at the hospice. The planned respite allows the children to enjoy fun and stimulating activities, while their parents relax and take a break, often the first one they have had in years; emergency care provides a life-line for a range of family situations; end of life care means we can provide the best possible support in a safe and secure environment.
Legacies are vitally important to Martin House. In fact, they make up more than a quarter of our entire voluntary income, meaning the cost of caring for one in four of our children is covered by gifts left in Wills. Our services are provided free of charge to the families that use us, with very little coming from statutory funding. For further information please visit our website www.martinhouse.org.uk
